How do you take your margarita? Blended, on the rocks, with or without salt? I am an on the rocks with salt kind of girl. Today National Margarita Day I am sharing my favorite margarita recipe. This came from a good friend of ours that found the recipe in Playboy Magazine (because he reads it for the articles). The secret to a great margarita is key limes. Sure, they take more work to get juice out of but it is well worth it for a blog worthy margarita.
From Topolobampo Restaurant
1 tsp finely grated zest of lime
½ Cup fresh lime juice
¼ Cup plus 1 tsp sugar
10 TBS water
¾ Cup Sauza Commemorativo Tequila
2 TBS + 2tsp Gran Torress Orange Liqueur (or Grand Marnier)
1 Cup coarsely broken ice cubes
Combine ingredients for limeade base in glass pitcher. Cover and refrigerate for two to 24 hours.
Strain into Second pitcher.
Rub the rim of four glasses with lime wedge and dip into coarse salt.
In shaker combine the limeade with Sauza Commemorativo, Gran Torress Liqueur, and ice. Shake for 10-15 seconds and pour into glasses.
